Basic Cooking

Basic cooking is a skills-based program with 12 classes. Individuals will learn:

  • Basics of cooking in a team
  • Work setting
  • Table etiquette
  • Chopping skills
  • Kitchen safety
  • Balanced meal planning
  • Affordable healthy food choices

Participants are exposed to creative ways of cooking food. Fun, learning and food, all in one! Menu is always prepared and enjoyed by participants! YUM!

Life Skills

Life Skills Program focuses on expanding the range of day to day activities young adults with disabilities can do independently. This interactive program is fun and teaches a variety of day to day skills such as:

  • Social competencies
  • Mathematics
  • Public speaking
  • Reading comprehension
  • Safety
  • Public transportation
  • Community volunteering

Developing knowledge of community resources and involvement helps promote independence for each individual. Past and continuing participants have especially shown a significant gain in social skills. This class is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays weekly for 16 sessions from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Life Skills – TRU

The Life Skills – TRU program is for students with cognitive and other disabilities to continue their pursuit toward obtaining independence in their lifestyle. The objective of the program is to maximize students’ full potential and personal development by:

  • Teaching a variety of practical skills required for everyday living
  • Improving social skills
  • Strengthening community connections and knowledge
  • Increasing independence

TRU Life Skills Link

Diverse Designs

Diverse Designs is an exciting program which fosters creativity and promotes entrepreneurship. Participants meet every Wednesday afternoon for 4 weeks from 1:30 – 2:00 pm. In the past, participants have made:

  • Cards
  • Ornaments
  • Jewelry
  • Woodworking items (tool boxes and bird houses)

These items are then sold at craft fairs, Farmer’s Markets as well as through our office. Participants are taught:

  • How to make items for sale
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Money skills
  • Retail skills

Participants also receive money from sales of their products.
